Last week in the innovation academy class, our teacher decided that it would be a good idea to have a different kind of activity.
What was this new activity about? Well, it started with an article that our teacher gave us on the previous class about the economy of people selling their organs and all the controversial areas and ideas around it. When we arrived to class, we were given 5 coins. We made a circle and sat down on chairs.
The idea was that every time anyone spoke they had to throw one coin inside a box there was in the middle of the circle. Once you were left with no coins, you were not allowed to participate in the discussion any more. This activity was chosen because it might help people like me, an introvert, to speak up and show all of my ideas.
I liked the idea. when our teacher first mentioned it the class before i totally agreed to it and was excited about it. if i was so excited about it and looking forward to it, then why was I left with 5 coins at the end of the activity? Why is it that i said nothing during the activity? i knew the article, I understood it and was totally prepared to discuss it, yet I did not mention any of my ideas or questions...why?
As an introvert I knew I wasn't going to be the first one to speak, i'm not at that level of inner freedom yet so I let other people start before me. As the first question was asked in my mind i was getting ready to answer it. someone started to answer and discuss, i didn't mind, it was just the start i had plenty of time to answer any other questions, besides, i just had to say my opinion about anything that is about the topic, no big deal “I got this”...but i never did.
