The first week of school is coming to an end, and so is the first iWeek of Innovation Academy! In this week we have done many things. We started our project which consisted of helping the new Roosevelt students have an easier transition to the school and feel welcome. After brainstorming several ideas a group of students and I in the innovation academy class believed in a specific project, Peruvian 101. It basically consisted of having a lunch with the new students in school. At lunch time we would sit together with them and teach them more about the culture of Peru, teach a little bit of spanish and simple stuff like how much a taxi could cost from point A to point B. In the end, the whole class came together with a final idea. we would make a survey to the new students, asking them about some of their interests and then put them in groups along with people with the same interests. As we did this I learned how to make a pitch, a presentation to persuade the audience into choosing a "product". I gave the pitch of the Peruvian 101 project. i must admit I really need to practice giving presentations. I can tell that giving presentations is one of my greatest weaknesses since I feel somewhat uneasy standing in front of an audience. I noticed that I looked at my hands and at the floor very often as i did the presentation. In addition, I noticed that the ideas and sentences got a little mixed up in my head; i think it's normal for that to happen, but I'd like to practice and keep it to a minimum. Overall its been an amazing first week in IA, and I'm looking forward to more fun projects like these.
